Position Overview: Director, Commodities and Energy

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated individual to join our Energy, Climate & Natural Resources (ECR) Practice as a Director of Commodities and Energy. In this pivotal role, the successful candidate will play a key role in driving the practice's efforts in research, advisory, and client work across North America, with occasional business travel involved. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced professional with a deep understanding of the mining sector, critical minerals, and energy markets to make a significant impact as part of a renowned political risk research and consulting firm.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to produce regular and timely analyst notes on developments in the mining sector, with a particular emphasis on global critical mineral policy and market trends.
  • Engage with individual clients to discuss and provide insights on mining sector developments, tailoring the analysis to meet their specific needs.
  • Independently interact with clients and prospects at a senior level, establishing and maintaining strong relationships to facilitate the growth of the ECR practice's client portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Energy, Climate, and Resources team to leverage their expertise and insights, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of energy markets, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
  • Drive the growth and expansion of the ECR practice by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, including pitching and presenting to potential clients.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and geopolitical developments related to energy, climate, and natural resources to inform analysis and advisory work.
  • Provide thought leadership and contribute to the development of intellectual property within the ECR practice.

 

Requirements:

  • At least ten years of relevant professional experience in the energy, climate, or natural resources sectors, with a focus on mining preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to produce concise and timely analyst notes.
  • Proven track record of independently interacting with clients and prospects at a senior level, demonstrating excellent relationship management abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of global critical mineral policy and market trends is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with energy markets, especially in oil and gas, will be beneficial to support the ECR practice's work in related fields.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong business acumen and the aptitude to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, while a relevant advanced degree (e.g., master's or Ph.D.) is preferred.

This position will be based in either New York or Washington DC.
